about
Ignacio Cervantes (1847-1905) is an important figure in Cuban music history. Cervantes was among the first to use native Cuban rhythms and idioms in concert music. Cervantes studied piano with the New Orleans virtuoso and composer, Louis Moreau Gottschalk. He also studied at the Paris Conservatoire where he studied with Marmontel and Alkan. He then returned to Havana to teach and perform. He toured the United States and Mexico as a concert pianist. Orchestrated from solo piano MIDI. In the Habanera style this music predates the Tango, which it influenced.
